Ghosting in Online Courses: Data and Strategies to Save the Academic Journey
Hosted in partnership with Wiley University Services.
Behavioral health and student attrition are major concerns for online and hybrid educators, with more than 23 percent of students becoming unresponsive and leaving their academic advisors and teachers to wonder where they have gone.
In this webcast, Julie Delich (Wiley University Services) and Jan Miller (University of West Alabama) explored how to uncover students’ back stories, investigate causes of ghosting, and innovate to connect with even the most at-risk students. Attendees were offered a view into how they can hone their student engagement skills, as well as tools to help save academic journeys.
Additional outcomes included:
- Understanding why students may become unresponsive.
- Learning to identify student archetypes and predict reasons for ghosting.
- Creating an online student retention toolkit that includes student engagement practices, planning connection points, and developing individualized support plans.
