Postsecondary Institution Data Security Overview & Requirements
A WCET and State Authorization Network (SAN) collaboration webcast.
As institutions move from the Information Age to the Virtual Age, cyberthreats are a certainty. It isn’t a question of “if,” but “when” and “how often there will be a cyberthreat.” This webcast defined data security, compliance requirements, and available tools for institutions to avoid risks to their federal student aid access.
Webcast Objectives:
- Increase audience comprehension of the current state of data security in the educational sector and the requirements of all Title IV schools as financial institutions.
- Clarify the definition of a breach, the protocol to follow when a breach is detected, and the right data to include in notifying Federal Student Aid of a breach as required.
- Share the existing free tools and services that are available for institutions today to develop a risk profile, determine their cybersecurity maturity, and implement legally required controls.
