In June 2017, I had the outstanding opportunity to attend my first WCET Leadership Summit. Last year’s event focused on the essential institutional capacities needed to encourage and lead innovation. I specifically remember feeling so invigorated by every session I attended and I truly enjoyed the hallway conversations and the incredibly active social media backchannel. I can’t believe it’s been almost a year!

If you’re experiencing a huge case of FOMO (or are just being super nostalgic like me), I’ve got great news for you! #WCETSummit is almost here again! This time we’re meeting in a NEW location (Newport Beach, CA!) and we’re chatting about several new topics. Luckily, Megan Raymond, WCET’s Assistant Director of Programs and Sponsorship, is here to tell us all about this year’s Leadership Summit. Thanks for the great post today, Megan!

WCET’s Summits are a unique blend of expert panels and interactive group discussions around key topics identified by WCET’s leadership committees to be timely and important to higher education institutions using technology to enhance teaching and learning. Previous Summit topics include, 21st century credentials, adaptive learning, data analytics, and developing institutional capacity to lead innovation.

The 2018 Summit in Newport Beach, CA on June 5-6 will weave some of these threads as well as new ones into a facilitated discourse surrounding these three key topics:

  1. Equity as a demonstrated priority for the institutions’ students, faculty, and staff.
  2. Accessibility as the lens through which the institution examines its resources, policies, services, and infrastructure.
  3. Data and evidence-based decision making for student success and ethical questions underlying analytics engines and EdTech products.

These topics, and the discussions that frame them, will help institutions consider their approaches and emerging strategies to ensure ethical and equitable access in digital learning. The Summit is open to all, the diversity of institutions, job titles, and experience enhance the discussions and information exchange.
